Wikia Pushes into L.A., Sets Eye on Hollywood

SAN FRANCISCO, March 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Wikia, the largest entertainment fan site in the world and the home to Fandom.com, today officially opened the doors to its new Los Angeles office, as the company looks to establish itself as a key player in the entertainment industry. The new space puts Fandom into the center of the action, offering a direct connection between Hollywood and its fans.

The move to Los Angeles comes from the desire to give studios an outlet to appeal directly to fans. The company has also hired industry veteran Taylor Wells to lead sales out of the new office. Wells, a veteran from the MCN Whistle Sports, Defy Media, and Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting, will be charged with partnering with Los Angeles area and other regional clients to develop advertising and media investment programs. Under the direction of Wikia's COO Walker Jacobs, Wells and the LA-based sales team will work closely with the company's San Francisco headquarters to support both new and existing client growth.

"As Wikia has evolved to become the ultimate hub for passionate pop culture fans, we knew we needed to be in the center of the action," said Craig Palmer, CEO of Wikia. "The expansion to Los Angeles gives us the perfect opportunity to be closer to some of our largest, most important marketing partners, and that should enable us to develop even deeper partnerships."

Eric Moro, who currently serves as Vice President of Content for Wikia, will be based in the new office and will spearhead all editorial content. Before joining Wikia, Eric was the Editor in Chief of the Movies, TV, Blu-ray and DVD channels for the popular entertainment website IGN.com. Eric has extensive experience producing unique, compelling editorial content covering the entertainment industry, pop culture and movies.

"I am thrilled with our push into the Los Angeles market," said Eric Moro, VP, Content. "As we enter the next phase of Wikia's growth, we want to be able to give our fans the types of opportunities they've been asking for. This new location gives us the ability to partner with some of the world's leading entertainment powerhouses."

Since its inception in 2006, Wikia has become an entertainment media powerhouse, boasting a record 360,000 fan communities and 43 million pages of original, rich content. The company just unveiled a brand new media property (Fandom.com) in January 2016 that serves as a hub for passionate entertainment fans. Fandom combines original editorial, "best of the Web" curated links and content pulled from Wikia's 360,000 communities. Fandom also boasts a Fan Contributor program that allows participants to share their expansive pop-culture knowledge while gaining instant visibility and recognition.
