TVO Honoured with Five 2016 Canadian Screen Awards

TORONTO, March 14, 2016 /CNW/ - TVO was honoured at the Canadian Screen Awards, which recognizes excellence in film, television, and digital media, with four awards for its children's educational content and one for its documentary programming.

TVOKids received the following:


-- Odd Squad won the award for Best Pre-School Program or Series. The
series, produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment in association with TVO,
was created for kids in Grades 1-2 and features two kid agents who solve
math-related mysteries CSI-style.


-- Finding Stuff Out received the award for Best Children's or Youth
Non-Fiction Program or Series. Created and produced by Apartment 11 in
association with TVO, Finding Stuff Out uses science to answer
school-aged kids' questions about how things work.


-- Finding Stuff Out host, and fan favourite, Harrison Houde was recognized
for Best Host in a Pre-school, Children's or Youth Program or Series in
the episode Poop. Finding Stuff Out is created and produced by Apartment
11 in association with TVO.
-- Paw Patrol won for Best Direction in an Animated Program or Series for
the Pups Save a Talent Show/Pups Save the Corn Roast episode. Produced
in association with Spin Master, Paw Patrol is geared towards pre-school
aged kids and is about superhero dogs that save the day by solving
problems and watching over their community.


With a particular focus on STEAM subjects, TVO gets kids ready for school, life and to take on the world through the power of learning.

TVO-commissioned documentary Sugar Coated was also recognized, receiving the prestigious Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program. TVO creates documentaries that address the social, economic, and political issues that matter to Ontarians. Produced in association with TVO, and created by filmmakers Michele Hozer and Janice Dawe, Sugar Coated is an eye-opening film which examines the various tactics that have many health experts calling sugar the new tobacco.

TVO received a total of 28 nominations, including recognition for its made-at-TVO educational children's content, innovative digital media and ground-breaking documentaries.
