An exclusive symphony work to be created for the official programming of Montréal's 375th anniversary celebrations
MONTRÉAL, March 9, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Society for Montréal's 375th anniversary celebrations is proud to announce the presentation of an original work that will be created for the closing concert of the 2016-2017 season of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
"Once again, our city will serve as a muse for creative minds from here that bring Montréal to people around the world and let it shine on the world stage. I am proud to see just how Montréal continues to be a source of inspiration and cultural exchanges," added Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montréal.
Under the direction of Kent Nagano, the symphony work, which is commissioned by the OSM, will make its world premiere during the Symphonie montréalaise concert and will be the fruit of a unique artistic partnership that brings together internationally-recognized Montréal talent: Samy Moussa, a young local composer and Moment Factory. This immersive visual and auditory experience will be presented on May 31 as well as June 1 and 2 at the Maison symphonique de Montréal.
"The government of Québec is proud to be a part of the OSM's Symphonie montréalaise, a cultural event which, once again, proves the OSM's ability to innovate and adapt to the life of our city. It is a one-of-a-kind performance that shines the spotlight on Montréal's history, creativity and artistic talents. It will not only instill a sense of pride and belonging in all Greater Montréal residents, but it will generate both tourism and economic spin-offs for the city," said Martin Coiteux, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Montréal region.
A special collaboration for Montréal's 375th anniversary
The concert is a true reflection of Montréal's dynamism, and its extraordinary capacity to marry tradition and music with new technology. Created, developed and produced by Montréal creators specifically for this pivotal moment in the city's history, this unique experience will present Montréal's life and history on three memorable evenings.
"This is exceptional and inspiring, a world premiere that will be an ode to our city," said Gilbert Rozon, Commissioner for Montréal's 375th anniversary celebrations. "This work will be a veritable symphonic poem that weaves together music and images. It will ignite an array of emotions as it recounts Montréal's history and beauty."
The show will be taped live so that it can be broadcast later to a wider audience.
