Studio Center Mourns the Passing of the Company's Founder, Warren Miller
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Nov. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Studio Center, headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA, is sad to announce the passing of the company's founder, Warren Miller (78), who died Wednesday after a lengthy illness.
Born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Arlington, VA, Miller founded Studio Center in 1966.
Miller began his professional career in radio at the age of 13. He went on to start his own record label, Potomac Records, which he later changed to Colt 45 Records. An accomplished musician, Miller recorded "Everybody's Got A Baby" in 1958 under his real name and many other songs using pseudonyms, including Jesse Travers and Cris Kevin. It was under the latter name that Miller recorded "Here He Comes, There He Goes", and was discovered by the legendary
Dick Clark and asked to appear on American Bandstand.
At the age of 22, Miller moved to Norfolk, VA to assist with the launch of radio station WCMS. It was in Norfolk that Miller established D'Arcy Studios, which was renamed "Studio Center", to service the production needs of local musicians and bands. Very soon after, Miller pioneered the practice of producing independently made commercials for the radio broadcast industry and through this process built an impressive roster of local voice talent.
Miller grew Studio Center into one of the largest and most respected production houses on the East Coast and then sold the company to William "Woody" Prettyman (current CEO) in 2004.
Survived by his loving wife, Robin, and 4 children, Miller was considered, by all who knew him, to be a wonderful family man and visionary. He will be missed.
William "Woody" Prettyman, CEO of Studio Center, commented, "Warren was a true genius who saw so many things much earlier than the rest of us. All of us at Studio Center owe him so much and are grateful to have known him."
