The Smithsonian Wants You to Hit Them with Your Best Shot!
rockandroll.si.edu launches on December 1, 2015
WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Smithsonian wants your rock'n'roll shots! On December 1, 2015, Smithsonian Books and Smithsonian Media will launch rockandroll.si.edu. We're reaching out to the general public to go through their attics, basements, boxes, drawers, digital cameras, photo albums, cell phones, cloud, photo upload sites, and computer hard drives for pictures that show the greatest moments in the history of rock'n'roll. The Smithsonian is crowdsourcing for a site (rockandroll.si.edu) and book that will illustrate rock'n'roll as it has never been seen before with photos sent in by YOU. Send us your Jimi Hendrix pictures. Your Patti Smith shots. Your Radiohead photos. We want rock'n'roll as seen through your eyes: at clubs, concerts, festivals, and beyond. Your photos will also have a chance at being featured in the book. Start sending in your rock snapshots now! We know that you've got some great rock shots, and we want to see them! Each month the Smithsonian or special guests will choose the best photos that have been submitted.
The site will also feature select photos and text from rock artists, band managers, photographers, and more sharing their favorite photos and stories. The site will launch December 1(st), and give the general public the opportunity to post their rock photos and help create one of the greatest collections of rock'n'roll photography ever. The book will be published in the fall of 2017.
Smithsonian Books publishes a select list of illustrated, photography, reference and narrative nonfiction books.
