Carlos Santana, Jim Marshall, And FTC Skateboarding Team Up For Limited Collector's Edition Skateboard Decks

The epic collection of double-sided 5-deck sets will feature iconic photos of Carlos Santana by Jim Marshall at Woodstock

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- FTC Skateboarding, Jim Marshall Photography LLC and Carlos Santana, in association with San Francisco Art Exchange (SFAE), announce a new series of limited collector's edition FTC skateboard decks showcasing influential images of music icon CarlosSantana taken at Woodstock by renowned rock photographer Jim Marshall. The decks will be released Friday, November 20 at FTC Skateboarding (1632 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117), kicking off with a release event at 12pm featuring Jim Marshall images and special guests.

The special edition pieces are double-sided, 5-deck set panoramas comprised of a single image on each side. When all five decks are positioned together, the image is complete. On one side is Marshall's iconic photo of Santana at Woodstock; the other side is Marshall's famous fisheye photo looking out at Santana on the Woodstock stage and into the crowd. The limited edition run of only 100 sets will be sold for $500 each. 100% proceeds from the sale of the FTC decks will go directly to Carlos Santana's Milagro Foundation, which benefits under-served and vulnerable children in the areas of education, health, and the arts, the Jim Marshall Fellowship at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, and San Francisco after-school skateboarding programs.

Starting its collaboration program in 2001 with a set of decks by Doze Green, Bigfoot, Evan Hecox, Damon Soule, and Greg "Pnut" Galinski, FTC has since worked with many acclaimed artists within and outside the skateboard world, including legends from the contemporary art milieu (Keith Haring), and veterans of the tattoo scene (Mike Giant), as well as musicians like Miles Davis and Carlos Santana.

This collaboration comes after FTC released Santana's top-selling 1970 Abraxas album cover art as a 4-deck set with 60's legend Mati Klarwein's family and wanted to give Carlos a gift set. Soon the idea to do their own project was hatched and Marshall's iconic photos from Woodstock seemed like a perfect fit. "Carlos says the best photos anyone has ever taken of him are by Jim Marshall and proposed these images for the collaboration," said Amelia Davis, Jim Marshall Photography LLC.

"We wanted to do this because both Jim and Carlos are icons of music, culture, and history and have had an incredible impact on the San Francisco community. This collaboration is a great way for FTC to help preserve this culture and reintroduce them to a younger generation so they understand the history of both artists. It's also a way to raise awareness for these local charities, which is truly rewarding," said FTC ownerKent Uyehara.
