MTS partners with local band in latest TV spot

Winnipeg based artists The Bros. Landreth lend their talents to most recent commercial featuring Morty and friends

WINNIPEG, Nov. 2, 2015 /CNW/ - (TSX:MBT) MTS has partnered with home-grown indie band, The Bros. Landreth for their latest television commercial, giving it a little extra soul and local flavour. In the spot, which features MTS' animated spokesperson Morty, the Winnipeg based rockers cover Cole Porter's classic "Don't Fence Me In". The commercial, which can be seen on air currently, is for the telecomm service's Total Internet plan.

"At MTS, we're always looking for ways to support Manitobans and give back to our community, particularly in the arts", says Heather Tulk, Chief Customer Officer for MTS Allstream. "The Bros. Landreth is one of Winnipeg's best up and coming bands and we're so happy that we get to showcase them and share their talent with the rest of the province."

The Bros. Landreth is an alternative, folk group whose sound is influenced by blues, roots and rock. The group was first formed in 2013 by brothers Joey and David Landreth, the sons of Winnipeg musician Wally Landreth. Both brothers share vocal duties, while Joey plays guitar and David plays bass. The band is rounded by Arial Posen on guitar and Ryan Voth on drums. At the 10th annual Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2014, the band won the award for New/Emerging Artist of the Year and their debut album, Let It Lie, won the 2015 Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year - Group.

"When MTS approached us about covering Cole Porter for them, we jumped at the opportunity" says lead singer Joey Landreth. "We're big fans of the original song, so we're very grateful to MTS for the chance to put our spin on it and share our sound with Manitobans across the province."

The band has toured in both Canada and the United States and has a growing fan base on both sides of the border. Most recently, the band partnered with Spotify Canada to release a new EP titled 'Undercover Bros.' on October 9th. The collection will include covers of some of the band's favourite songs, with one song being rolled out each week until November 7th.

The Bros. Landreth kicked off latest North American tour a few weeks ago, with the opening show at the Burton Cummings theatre in Winnipeg on Saturday October 17th. For more information on the Bros. Landreth and to check out upcoming tour dates, please visit http://www.thebroslandreth.com/.
