Veterans and Their Families Take in Terminator Over Holiday Weekend

Wounded Warrior Project Provides Outreach Events for Veterans and Families



SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 8, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the big screen this weekend to reprise his role as the Terminator. 150 wounded veterans and their families enjoyed a free screening of "Terminator Genisys" through the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Alumni Program, which provides long-term support and camaraderie for injured servicemen and women through events, discounted services, and an online community.

Along with the movie, the group received free soft drinks and popcorn and had an opportunity to connect with other veterans in a social atmosphere. Through interactions with other Alumni, injured veterans see they are not alone in their recovery and find new ways to cope and heal with combat injuries.

A vital component of the outing was engagement among families and caregivers. Thursday night, WWP hosted 30 veterans and their families for a Family Support Outreach dinner at Ruth's Chris. Over a four-course meal, current and potential Family Support Members bonded with other veterans and families, while learning about WWP's 20 free programs and services.

WWP Alumnus Matthew Osofsky saw other possibilities in the dinner. The night out gave his main support group -- his girlfriend -- a chance to learn about WWP programs and offered him a chance to give back by sharing personal insights about how he has thrived post-military. Osofsky, who has lost 20 pounds since January, spoke to the entire group about the benefits of WWP's health and wellness programs. "As I progress, I see an opportunity to be the one providing the support," Osofsky said. "I wanted to meet the new people; I wanted to help them."
