Comcast Awards $40,000 In Scholarships To 31 New Hampshire Students

Graduating High School Seniors Recognized for Academic Achievement and Community Service

CONCORD, N.H., June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Comcast Foundation, founded in 1999 to provide charitable support to its local communities and to empower and enrich lives, today announced the 2015 recipients of its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. The program, one of the Comcast Foundation's signature community investment programs, recognizes students' leadership skills, academic achievement and commitment to community service.

New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan, who assisted Steve Hackley, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Greater Boston Region, in awarding the scholarships at the State House earlier today, praised good corporate citizens like Comcast. Thirty-one of the 2015 New Hampshire Leaders and Achievers recipients received $1,000 scholarships and one lucky student was awarded a $10,000 Comcast Founders Scholarship - instituted in honor of Ralph J. Roberts, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Comcast Corporation - for a total of $40,000 awarded in New Hampshire this year.

"All of today's scholarship winners represent the talent and hard work that will help New Hampshire lead the country in innovative economic growth," Governor Hassan said. "I want to congratulate our students on this great accomplishment and commend them for their dedication to preparing for their futures, and I thank Comcast for their continued investment in the success of our young people, our communities and our state."

"We are honored to recognize the accomplishments of our 31 Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners. They exemplify leadership and show great commitment to academic excellence and community service," said Hackley. "We are excited to support them as they enter their next chapters in education."

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program provides one-time $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.

Local winners throughout New Hampshire have participated in a wide variety of community service activities, such as volunteering at Big Brothers and Big Sisters, local schools, Elliot Health System and US FIRST.

Since the program's inception, more than $22.8 million in scholarship money has been presented to nearly 23,000 scholarship winners nationwide. A list of the scholarship recipients in New Hampshire is detailed below.
