PSSI Global Services Brings 10th Anniversary Amgen Tour to Viewers
Delivers unprecedented connectivity for eight-day race in extreme conditions
VAN NUYS, Calif., May 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- PSSI Global Services LLC, a worldwide leader in satellite technology, announces a milestone decade of successful global production and transmission services in the extreme conditions of the Amgen Tour of California professional cycling race, which ended on May 17. A proving ground for PSSI's technology and expertise, the course for the 10(th) anniversary of the Tour of California wound through central byways, coastlines and mountaintops, making this valuable production with high-profile participants an immense undertaking.
"An eight-day race with climates ranging from sunny, postcard skies to pelting rain and white-out snow combined with the movement of an entire television compound over a hundred miles each day presents a challenge unlike any other type of sporting event in the world," said Rob Lamb, CEO of PSSI Global Services. "After a decade of success, I'm still in awe of our team, our partners and PSSI's capabilities to transmit an event this complex to the world."
PSSI's webcast production and transmission streamed continuously through 20-hour days in great obstacles to bring this exciting annual spectacle to people around the globe. Each day, PSSI successfully transmitted multiple paths over domestic satellite to NBC and NBC SN, a world feed covering all four hemispheres, and the source feed for the Tour Tracker online app and daily newsfeed, which went out to broadcasters in dozens of countries.
For all 10 years of the race, PSSI has also provided a satellite-based communication system to bring phone and Internet services to the remote TV compounds located around the state. The phone system was used for production and transmission needs in all of the finish cities and was invaluable for sites where even cell phones wouldn't function, such as the compound at Mount Baldy nestled 6,500 feet above sea level in the San Gabriel Mountains.
The company is looking forward to returning to the Tour of California in 2016 for its 11(th) year. For more information about PSSI Global Services, visit pssiglobal.com.
