Fiesta San Antonio Kicks Off With 11 Days of Culture, Charity and Fun

SAN ANTONIO, April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The streets of San Antonio are filling with music, confetti and fun for Fiesta® San Antonio. Kicking off today and ending on April 26, the 124-year-old festival boasts more than 110 events, 52 stages, 35 concerts, 33 events and 14 parades - with many of the proceeds going to charities.

Beginning in 1891 with The Battle of Flowers Parade, an all-woman organized parade to honor the heroes from the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto, Fiesta has grown to incorporate more than 75,000 volunteers - making it a real Texas-sized festival. Fiesta offers visitors and locals alike the opportunity to fully immerse in San Antonio's rich and diverse culture, history, tradition and heritage.

Here is a small sampling of Fiesta's many authentic events:


-- Texas Cavaliers River Parade (April 20): Each year hundreds of thousands
of people line the banks of the San Antonio river to view the most
unusual parade in America. This parade features more than 40 festively
decorated floats sponsored by local community organizations and military
installations.
-- Night in Old San Antonio (NIOSA) (April 21 - 24): Each year the historic
downtown village of La Villita takes center stage as 85,000 visitors
gather for four nights to celebrate the city's unique heritage. More
than 250 elaborately decorated food and drink booths and more than a
dozen nonstop entertainment stages represent the diverse cultures and
customs of San Antonio in 15 heritage-themed areas.
-- Battle of Flowers Parade (April 24): Glittering in the Texas sunshine,
this parade thrills thousands of spectators along the streets of
downtown with awe-inspiring sights and sounds. This year celebrates the
parade's time-honored tradition with "This Land is Your Land,"
highlighting the beauty of the United States of America and American
heritage.
-- Fiesta Flambeau Parade (April 25): This illuminated parade lights up the
streets of downtown San Antonio on a 2.6 mile route. As the evening
turns to night, the parade fills with spectacular lights and sounds from
an average of 150 parade entries. Many entries include local bands,
dance group sand floats, in addition to international marching groups.
-- Fiesta Pooch Parade (April 25): Dog lovers from all over bring their
best friends to this family oriented event, which winds its way through
the lovely tree-lined streets of Alamo Heights. There's even a canine
costume contest that all registered dogs can enter.
-- King William Fair (April 25): The 48(th) King William Fair is a family
fair with art and craft vendors, live music and dance on four stages,
food and beverage booths, a Kids Kingdom play area and a small but
quirky parade - all on the street of the historic King William
neighborhood, with its stately homes and gracious gardens.
