Marking the directorial debut of F. Gary Gray, the film Friday stars Ice Cube, who after acting in popular films including Boyz 'N the Hood and Higher Learning, segued to comedy. He also co-wrote the film alongside frequent musical collaborator, DJ Pooh. Friday also stars Chris Tucker, Nia Long, Bernie Mac, Tiny 'Zeus' Lister Jr. and John Witherspoon. The film revolves around 16 hours in the lives of unemployed slackers Craig Jones and Smokey, who must pay a drug dealer $200 by 10:00 p.m. that night. The film spawned two sequels: "Next Friday" and "Friday After Next," with a fourth film, "Last Friday," currently in development
