Conde Nast Entertainment's 'The Scene' Debuts Provocative Documentary Series, THE SCENE INSIDE
THE SCENE INSIDE Kicks off with "The Grind" featuring NFL Star Brandon Marshall
NEW YORK, Sept. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Conde Nast Entertainment (CNE) today announced THE SCENE INSIDE, a provocative new docu-series debuting on THE SCENE (thescene.com). Offering an in-depth look at the stories and people that shape the cultural conversation, THE SCENE INSIDE will provide audiences access to fascinating places, untold stories and captivating characters. Following on the tradition of providing cutting edge content to its viewers, CNE will kick off the fall docu-series line-up with The Grind from GQ.
"After our success with the EMMY-nominated series, Casualties of the Gridiron and the TELEVISION ACADEMY HONOREE, Screw You Cancer, it became clear that THE SCENE INSIDE would be an opportunity to feature real people and their stories," said Michael Klein, executive vice president of Programming and Content Strategy, "Giving audiences a provocative view of controversial and diverse topics will build on the success of our previous documentary series."
THE SCENE INSIDE series scheduled for this Fall include:
-- The Grind (GQ Original)
-- Debuting today, The Grind follows Brandon Marshall, one of the most
intriguing players in the NFL, in the months leading up to the 2014
NFL season. Brandon Marshall was diagnosed with Borderline
Personality Disorder and wants to be the public face of mental
health in the NFL. Viewers catch Brandon as he approaches the third
act of what could very well be a Hall of Fame career -- at a point
when he's thinking as much about how to use the platform of football
to make a lasting mark on the world as on the game itself. The
Brandon Marshall Foundation's focus to end the stigma of mental
illness. The Grind is from the award-winning team that produced
Casualties of the Gridiron. Directed by Isaac Solotaroff.

-- Belle Knox - (THE SCENE Original)
-- Miriam Weeks is an 18-year-old college student attending Duke
University. She is also Belle Knox, America's top new adult-film
actress, using her income as an adult entertainer to pay her
tuition. During her freshman year, scandal broke out across national
headlines about her career and instead of hiding from it, she
embraced it. By creating the alter-ego Belle, Miriam believes she
can separate her two realities: a promising college student at a top
ranked university and a young woman working in the explicit industry
of adult entertainment.

-- China Wealth (GQ Original)
-- From award winning filmmaker Lauren Greenfield, a new series that
reveals the unimaginable realities of new wealth and luxury in
China. Champagne, caviar, private jets, and foreign etiquette are
being adopted into this growing capitalistic world within a
Communist state. But what does this mean for the rest of the country
struggling to define "the Chinese Dream" and what does this mean for
China as a whole? How excessive will this culture of new money
continue to grow, and what will be the breaking point? To the 1% in
China, the most elaborate lifestyle you can afford to live reaps
more rewards than ever before.

-- FPS Russia (THE SCENE Original)
-- The FPS Russia YouTube channel was created by Keith Ratliff and Kyle
Myers in April of 2010. By early 2013, it became one of YouTube's
most popular destinations with over 5 million subscribers. Myers
played the part of Dmitri Potapoff, "The Professional Russian," with
a seemingly unlimited knowledge of guns, ammunition and heavy
artillery. In January of 2013 at the height of their popularity,
Myer's co-creator Keith Ratliff was unexpectedly shot in the head,
execution style, with a single bullet at close range. No one knows
who killed Ratliff or why. What we do know is both men created a
strange and successful digital video brand set in a world where
highly-regulated automatic weapons are king, and the distinction
between reality and fiction is blurred.
-- Live Date: November 2014
-- The Last Mile (WIRED Original)
-- From award-winning filmmaker Ondi Timoner (We Live In Public) and in
cooperation with the California Department of Corrections and
Rehabilitation, THE LAST MILE features THE LAST MILE initiative,
which turns inmates into entrepreneurs providing concrete skills and
legitimate job opportunities when they are paroled. It's rare that
an inmate serving a 25 year sentence for attempted murder would
request a transfer to California's only prison with a gas chamber -
San Quentin. But that's exactly what Damon Cooke did. Hoping to
enter THE LAST MILE program, Cooke received his transfer and became
part of THE LAST MILE'S third graduating class. He's scheduled for
parole in Fall 2014, and unlike the vast majority of America's more
than 2 million prisoners, Damon Cooke's future is bright. In
California, nearly 58 percent of the state's offenders are sent back
to prison within three years of their release. This series will show
the complete story of this Ed-tech startup. Its impact on the
quality of human life is a flagship achievement demonstrating the
power and freedom technology can provide, even in the most hopeless
of circumstances.
