Terrifying And Enigmatic Creatures Emerge From The Darkness During Monster Week On Discovery en Espanol

The hair-raising stunt kicks off with a new season of River Monsters in Latin America

MIAMI, June 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Monster Week premieres on Discovery en Espanol with five mystery-filled nights about strange creatures that lurk in dark corners of the Earth. The first-ever Monster Week, airing July14 through 18 at 7PM E/ 8PM P, includes the new season of the popular series MONSTRUOS DE RIO (River Monsters) with biologist and extreme angler Jeremy Wade and the premiere of the specials MEGALODON VIVE (Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives) and EL YETI RUSO (Russian Yeti), among others.

Beginning Monday, the new season of MONSTRUOS DE RIO airs Monday through Friday at 7PM E/ 8PM P, and follows Jeremy Wade on a journey through South America to track down dangerous freshwater species suspected of attacks on humans. Among the cases he investigates is the sinking of the Sobral Santos, one of the Amazon's largest maritime disasters. That night, as many as 200 passengers lost their lives, and something in the water is being blamed for many of the deaths. Wade is hell bent on finding out what it was...or is.

"I've been fishing the world for decades, but it is the Amazon that keeps calling me back," Jeremy Wade commented. "This time, I returned to solve the mission of a lifetime as I spent an entire year going farther, deeper and more remote that I've even been before."

Also on Monday night, Discovery en Espanol presents the premiere of MEGALODON VIVE at 9PM E/P. The two-hour special takes viewers on a search for a massive killer great white shark responsible for a chain of fatalities off the coast of South Africa. According to a theory proposed by a controversial scientist, this could be the work of Megalodon, a fearsome fish measuring 18 meters long and a close relative of the great white shark, one of history's biggest and most fearsome predators.

Not all of the action during Monster Week takes place in the water. EL YETI RUSO investigates the deaths of a group of students who set off on an excursion in the Ural Mountains in 1959 and whose bodies were found half-naked and mutilated. Fifty-five years later, American explorer Mike Libecki analyzes evidence that suggests that the students could have been killed by a creature thought only to exist in folklore. EL YETI RUSO premieres Thursday, July 17 at 9PM E/P.

Monster Week concludes on Friday, July 18 with the specials SIRENAS (Mermaids) and SIRENAS: NUEVAS EVIDENCIAS (Mermaids: The New Evidence) at 8PM E/ 5PM P.
