Disney Planes: Fire & Rescue, Country Music and Fire Safety Combine to Celebrate Everyday Heroes at the 2014 CMA Music Festival

Kidde Fire Safety's exhibit at AT&T U-Verse Fan Fair X offers activities for all ages

NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With the support of country music stars Kix Brooks and Craig Morgan, Kidde Fire Safety is empowering country music fans at this year's CMA Music Festival to be fire safe. From June 5-8, Kidde representatives and local firefighters invite visitors to participate in activities including recording and sharing a video tribute; engaging with Disney's Planes: Fire & Rescue, in theaters July 18, and meeting country music stars and safety advocates Brooks and Morgan. Kidde, a global leader in fire-safety products, is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Kidde's participation in the CMA Music Festival is an extension of its "Be a Safety Hero" campaign that launched in November 2013. The National Fire Protection Association reports two-thirds of all U.S. home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Kidde's campaign reminds families of these simple steps to safety:

-- Replace smoke alarms every 10 years
-- Place fire extinguishers within reach of every level of your home
-- Install carbon monoxide alarms on each floor and near bedrooms
-- Create an escape plan with your family
-- Commit to being a safety hero at www.AlarmPledge.com
Morgan, a former first responder and spokesperson for the campaign, is donating 5,000 Kidde Worry-Free sealed smoke alarms to fire departments along this year's VA Mortgage Leader Presents Craig Morgan The Journey Tour. In March, Morgan received the inaugural "Hero of the Week" mention on the #1 country music radio program, American Country Countdown (ACC), of which Kidde is a sponsor. The show is hosted by Brooks, a three-time CMA "National Broadcast Personality of the Year" and two-time Grammy award-winner. Each week, Brooks encourages listeners to visit KiddeCountry.com to nominate a fire, police or military person who has made a difference. The "Hero of the Week" is chosen by Brooks and spotlighted on air and online. Festival attendees who upload a qualified video to their Facebook page and use the hashtag #KiddeCountryHero will be considered for a future "Hero of the Week."

Morgan and Brooks will sign autographs at Kidde's booth on Friday, June 6. Attendees will also have a chance to receive signed copies of the artists' latest CDs, prizes from Planes: Fire & Rescue and Kidde Worry-Free sealed smoke alarms by taking Kidde's safety quiz.

"Kidde is thrilled that Disney, ABC, Kix Brooks and Craig Morgan are inspired to help make a difference by encouraging families to be fire safe," said Heather Caldwell, marketing and communications manager, Kidde. "Having smoke alarms on each floor and in sleeping areas and replacing them every 10 years can help save lives. By engaging country music fans in fun, memorable activities, we hope they will remember and act on these safety steps when they return home."

Visit booth 720 at the Music City Center. Follow activities via Twitter, @kiddesafety (#KiddeCountryHero) and @countrymusic (#CMAFest), or at www.facebook.com/kidde and www.facebook.com/CMA . Fans nationwide can also participate via Kidde's Facebook page, where they can enter for a chance to fly away to the premiere of Planes: Fire & Rescue and win Kidde Worry-Free smoke alarms.
