Centerplate presents John Legend as surprise musical guest
BALTIMORE, Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- After a night of exciting music, exceptional food, and touching personal stories, Centerplate, hospitality partner to top sporting venues, convention centers and cultural attractions across North America and the U.K., is proud to announce the final fundraising tally for "An Evening of Unexpected Delights." The gala, held October 19(th) at the Baltimore Convention Center, and hosted by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, helped to raise nearly $500,000 for The Journey Home, Baltimore's 10-year plan to end homelessness in the city, and featured a stirring musical performance by surprise guest John Legend.
"We were excited to once again join forces with Mayor Rawlings-Blake, the city of Baltimore, and the Baltimore Convention Center in the third annual Journey Home Banquet to combat homelessness in Baltimore," said Des Hague, President and CEO of Centerplate. "Centerplate works to enhance the communities in which we live and work. We're extremely pleased to have helped raise over $1.3 million for the Journey home Campaign over the past three years."
All proceeds from the benefit will provide funding for a number of Journey Home priorities including an employment program that operates out of three emergency shelters in Baltimore and a children's coordinator program to support the academic and social needs of the nearly 1,000 homeless youth living in shelters.
An Evening of Unexpected Delights was a progressive evening of dining, dancing and entertainment surprises, including an intimate musical event with one of America's most celebrated, Grammy-award winning artists, John Legend. The evening included another surprise guest Deborah Phelps, former Baltimore County School Principal and mother of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.
In addition to catering the dinner, and donating associated costs for the receptions, Centerplate also underwrote the evening's entertainment.
