Tribune's Joe Young to Retire as General Manager of KDAF-TV, Dallas

CHICAGO, Sept. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tribune Broadcasting today announced that Joe Young, Vice President and General Manager of the company's Dallas television station, KDAF-TV (CW33), will retire effective October 11. Young has served as VP/GM since 1995, overseeing the launch of the station's first prime-time newscast in 1999, CW33's "News @ Nine." Young also presided over the creation of the CW33 Kids Fund, which has raised millions of dollars for children in need. Under his leadership, KDAF-TV won the Texas Association of Broadcasters' "Bonner McLane Award" for community service.

"It's been a great ride," said Young. "I'm extremely proud of everything we've accomplished at KDAF-TV and grateful for being given the opportunity to lead such a wonderful team here in Dallas. I'm going to miss interacting with the talented professionals across Tribune, but I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life."

A graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Young began his 40-year career in the television industry in sales at St. Louis' KDNL-TV and KPLR-TV, before moving on to Petry Television. Sales management positions at Telerep and Kansas State Network followed. He then spent ten years as the VP/GM of Indianapolis station WXIN-TV before moving to KDAF-TV. He served on the Fox affiliates board for five years, seeing WXIN win the first Fox Affiliate of the Year Award in 1991 and becoming chairman of the board in 1995.

"Joe's done a great job at KDAF and we will miss his incredible passion and enthusiasm," said Larry Wert, Tribune Broadcasting's President/Broadcast Media. "His leadership has served the station and the community well, and he should be proud of everything he's accomplished."
