Earthcore Partners with Designing Spaces(TM) airing on Lifetime TV and Donates A Beautiful Outdoor Living Space to a Disabled Iraq War Veteran
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Earthcore is proud to partner with Designing Spaces(TM) airing on Lifetime television, on the upcoming "Project Homeward Bound" series. Mark your Calendars, first airing September 25(th) through 27(th)at 7:30am (ET/PT). This is an exciting 3 part series that will again air Oct 23 through Oct 25 at 7:30am (ET/PT).
Through this partnership,President and CEO of Earthcore, Carl Spadaro, donated a beautiful Isokern outdoor fireplace and kitchen system, custom designed for this Jacksonville, Florida disabled veteran, Jeffrey Taylor and his family. This is the family's first home. The 2,300-square-foot, ranch-style house was donated by Bank of America as Purple Heart Homes' first project in Florida.
The house was renovated with construction services donated from RTF Construction. Hardware, fixtures, interior furnishings and structural goods; including Isokern products by Earthcore were donated as well. "We were thrilled to be asked to participate with these wonderful organizations and hope the Taylor family gets many years of enjoyment from our products," said Earthcore CEO, Carl Spadaro. The fireplace itself, an EPA Phase 2 Qualified clean burning fireplace is the first open faced, masonry wood burning fireplace to be qualified under a new EPA clean burning initiative. Equipped with a twenty-first century catalytic combustor exclusive to Earthcore, the Taylors' fireplace will burn wood 85% cleaner, requires no maintenance and only needs replacing every 3-5 years.
It took about a month to complete the renovations on the Taylors' new home. Hundreds of local volunteers from Bank of America, GE Aviation Veterans Network, Stonecore (the largest supplier of natural stone in Northeast Florida), Earthcore and other businesses/groups donated their time as well.
Taylor and his wife are from Putnam County. He served with the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He was critically injured when his crew's vehicle came under mortar attack just outside the Baghdad airport, causing it to roll into a canal with Taylor trapped underneath. He was rescued but left with a crushed leg, nerve damage, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and hearing loss.
Purple Heart Homes co-founder, John Gallina referred to the assistance the Taylor family received as a "hand-up," not a handout. "It's not enough to just bring you home," Gallina told Taylor. "We want to lift you up." The kind of community support that came together to renovate the Taylor home, Gallina said, is critical for veterans to reintegrate into society. Taylor will be paying a 50 percent mortgage cost of the home's market value and has pledged to assist others as much as he can in the same way to give back.
