'If You Can Make It Here...' Takes on New Meaning at One New York Venue
NEW YORK, Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- For many talented performers, including aspiring artists of all genres, the opening line of "New York, New York"--the song first recorded in 1979 by Frank Sinatra, which he re-recorded in duet with Tony Bennett--resonates: "Start spreadin' the news, I'm leaving today. I want to be a part of it: New York, New York." The song concludes with an even more relevant line for aspirants to fame and fortune: "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere. It's up to you, New York, New York."
One hallmark of "making it" in New York is an appearance at Madison Square Garden. Yet for many bands who have gathered momentum but are not yet ready to pack the Garden with 25,000 screaming fans, there is another iconic performance space that says "we're making it" in New York: the Hammerstein Ballroom at Manhattan Center.
A case in point: the many famous bands who have been through the doors of this historic venue. Over the years, those who have graced the Hammerstein Ballroom include Missy Elliott, Alliyah, Jay Z, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Sting, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Justin Timberlake and Pharrel Williams--and that's just to name a few.
With New York City, of course, comes constant updating and change. Fully reinvented for today's world, the just-over-a-century-old Hammerstein Ballroom stands proud as a magnificent, fully integrated 21st-century entertainment venue. The enormous, elegant space features a fully restored, hand-painted ceiling that soars 75 feet above the main floor, two balconies that complement the main floor, along with three side boxes on either side of the proscenium. Located within Manhattan Center on West 34th Street, the venerable Hammerstein Ballroom, renowned for its elegant appearance and excellent acoustics, seats 2,200 for musical performances.
"We are proud that rising and established bands from all over the world make us a key stop on their world tours," says Robert Carvell, Director of Productions for Manhattan Center Studios. "Hosting them and helping to make that connection with their growing audiences and fan base is such a great pleasure for us."
