Honda Lights Up Movie Screens at Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre with Second Digital Projector Award
HONOR, Mich., Sept. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cherry Bowl Drive-In has become one of five drive-in theaters no longer in jeopardy of closing its doors thanks to Honda's Project Drive-In. With the end of 35-mm film distribution this year, and the costly switch to digital projection nearing, Honda created Project Drive-In as a national effort to save as many of America's remaining drive-ins as possible. Through Project Drive-In, awareness is being raised across the country, offering communities simple ways to get involved and helping this historic part of American cinema and car culture live on.

In celebration of the Project Drive-In award, the Cherry Bowl Drive-In, located at 9812 Honor Hwy in Honor, Michigan is inviting the local community to a special celebration today at 6:00 pm ET. In addition, following the September 21 Los Angeles premiere of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, all drive-ins receiving digital projectors, care of Honda's Project Drive-In, will have the opportunity to screen the highly-anticipated film before its wide release date.
The five drive-in theaters set to receive a new digital projector from Honda's Project Drive-In were determined by the over two million votes received from Aug. 9 to Sept. 9 at www.projectdrivein.com. Visitors to the site were encouraged to share Project Drive-In information with family and friends via social media, email or texts, pledge to see one movie at their local drive-in and contribute to the national save-the-drive-in fund to help keep more drive-ins in business.
"Thanks to the Honor community, Cherry Bowl Drive-In's outdoor screen will stay lit for decades to come," said Alicia Jones, Manager of Honda Social Media at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "We're proud of our involvement in this cause and to help these small businesses remain a thriving part of their communities."
