Film Bar Phoenix to Host 10th Anniversary Screening Of "Sideways" with Wine Tasting by Central Coast Wine & Food
Moviegoers will have a chance to sample wines brought directly from the exact location of the independent film shot in Santa Barbara County
PHOENIX, Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Film Bar Phoenix has teamed up with the Central Coast Wine & Food pop-up tasting tour to host a unique screening of Sideways, the film that brought mainstream international attention to the Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez valleys. Wine lovers in Phoenix will have a chance on October 3(rd) to sample world class wines brought directly from the setting of the film.
"This is about as close as you can get to being in the Santa Ynez Valley, drinking Pinot Noir with Paul Giamatti," said Film Bar owner Kelly Aubey. "If you love wine and film, this is the perfect event."
Heralded widely in the wine world for Chardonnays, most consumers might know the Santa Barbara region as the setting of the Sideways-influenced evolution of American wine buying habits from Merlot to Pinot Noir.
"Yes, we will definitely be pouring excellent Pinot Noir," said Central Coast Wine & Food tour founder William Fernandez. "We're not selling anything, we just want to introduce these small-production, sophisticated wines from the Santa Maria and Santa Ynez Valleys to savvy wine enthusiasts in Phoenix and let the wine do the talking."
The pop-up tasting tour hosts events across the country, debuting in the Phoenix area this month with tasting events at Evo Café in Scottsdale, D'Vine Wine Bar & Bistro in Mesa and the Welcome Diner in downtown Phoenix.
"The Diner was pleased to host Central Coast Wine & Food for their Phoenix stop," said Sloane McFarland, owner of the Welcome Diner. "Our existing customers and new faces loved hearing about - and tasting - some of the up-and-coming and established winemakers and wines. Wil was a great host and the definition of hospitality. Best to the rolling tour!"
Winners of the Central Coast California photo contest, held over the summer of 2013, will be on display at the wine tasting event, including photographs of vineyards and the winemaking process by Central Coast photographer Jeremy Ball.
The wines come from winemakers who range from established veterans like Steve Clifton and Morgan Clendenen - known as the "Queen of Viognier," to up-and-coming cult heroes like Wes Hagen and garagiste winemaker Ryan Roark. The tour creates opportunities to hear the stories behind the vines.
