Photographer Tamara Lackey Captures Life Better and Wins Booklist Editors' Choice Award

Photographer Tamara Lackey Captures Life Better and Wins Booklist Editors' Choice Award

DURHAM, N.C., Jan. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Professional photographer and best-selling author, Tamara Lackey, announced today that her 90-minute DVD Capturing Life Through (Better) Photography was awarded the Booklist Editors' Choice Award for Media, 2011.

"I co-created this product to help viewers capture their best unrehearsed moments; those every day, spontaneous, 'let me take a picture!' events that make up their memories and stories," says Tamara Lackey. "I wanted to show anyone with a digital camera how they can transform their average point-and-shoot photos into little works of art, and I'm quite honored to hear that it has been chosen for the prestigious Booklist Editors' Choice Award."

The DVD offers tips and tricks from Tamara that help viewers understand that the keys to taking better photographs can be found in simple tweaks to what they're already doing with their digital camera. Tamara's passion for photography and playful, approachable attitude energize the video, transforming the learning process into a fast-paced, hands-on experience that is anything but your standard "how to" learning tool.

Candice Smith, reviewer for Booklist, shared her enjoyment of the DVD in her write-up. "Anyone who has tried to photograph a squirming child or rambunctious pet knows that taking good photographs involves more than just point-and-click. Professional photographer Tamara Lackey shares tips and techniques in this viewer-friendly program. As she enthusiastically works with clients in their homes and outdoors, she demonstrates five elements (interaction, composition, lighting, background, equipment) throughout the program. Lackey shows how to get natural reactions from children (never have them say cheese), frame shots (off center is often more interesting), and perfect close-ups (get down to the subject's level). Lackey stresses the importance of reading the camera manual but says the 'key to better photographs is not always in the manual'; it's more about mastering technique and capturing the moment."

Candace Smith concluded her review with her fabulous seal of approval. "Informative and entertaining, this first-rate, reasonably priced video will inspire home photographers to experiment and improve their techniques."

The DVD showcases its broadcast-quality production, resembling more of a prime-time television program than that of an educational guide. Co-produced and directed by Rex Ballard, Director of Photography for ABC's Emmy award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ballard brings the highest quality video production to the Tamara Lackey DVD.

The complete Tamara Lackey Capturing Life through (Better) Photography DVD, book and quick reference guide bundle is sold for $59.99. Tamara has also released her 90-minute DVD and 100-page book as stand-alone items for $27.99 and $34.99 respectively.
