Rentrak Announces Major Contract Expansion With Raycom TV Across 17 Key Markets
--Unique Census-Based TV Ratings Service Allows Raycom To Focus on Selling Local Television's Strengths--
PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak Corporation (NASDAQ:RENT), the leader in multi-screen media measurement serving the advertising, television and entertainment industries, today announced a long-term contract expansion with Raycom TV for Rentrak's StationView Essentials local market census-based ratings service across 17 of the largest Raycom television markets.
This more comprehensive contract includes the integration of the Polk Automotive and Political Segmentation information with Rentrak's household and advanced Demographics Ratings. These allow Raycom to sell not only the size of their audiences, but also their "strength" of a particular Auto purchaser or Political segment. Rentrak's ability to provide insights into viewers' consumer purchasing information, in addition to gross ratings points in these key categories, creates expanded revenue opportunities for Raycom's stations.
Raycom signed with Rentrak in 2010 for service in two TV markets, Charlotte and Birmingham. Raycom's success in these initial markets resulted Raycom's decision to expand its relationship with Rentrak across many of their largest TV markets. Raycom is one of the nation's largest local television broadcasters, with stations in 18 states covering approximately 13% of the U.S. population.
"We believe Rentrak's measurement can change the way our industry does business because there are significant advantages for both buyers and sellers of ad time," commented Paul McTear, President and CEO at Raycom. "We need to take the focus from measurement issues and put it back on the efficiency and effectiveness of local television."
"Rentrak offers several important attributes our industry has been looking for in local measurement, including stability of data, consistency in methodology between markets, and daily ratings even in the smallest markets," added Billy McDowell, VP Research at Raycom.
Rentrak's CEO Bill Livek declared that "Raycom's greatly expanded partnership with Rentrak is further compelling evidence that local television stations are generating competitive advantages by adopting Rentrak's census-based currency across their Sales, Programming and Promotions disciplines."
As the census-based television ratings currency, Rentrak provides daily measurement of all TV networks nationally and at a granular level in all 210 media markets nationwide and is the only fully-integrated system of detailed satellite, telco and cable TV viewing data commercially available that incorporates information from over 19 million televisions.
