Music and Toy Experts Develop Groundbreaking Music App for Kids

DoReMi 1-2-3 integrates fun iPad play with principles of music learning

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading toy-industry providers Creativity and Funosophy announced today the launch of DoReMi 1-2-3 for iPad, thefirst in a groundbreaking line of apps focused on musical ear training and its cognitive benefits.

"We've designed an intuitive and playful experience that produces tangible learning, even for kids too young for formal lessons," said Charles Albert, Co-CEO of Creativity, Inc., a contributor to thousands of toys.

Kids who play DoReMi 1-2-3 learn to distinguish the building blocks of musical pitch and melody, without even realizing it. Pre-launch play testing has already garnered fans.

"There's nothing out there quite like it," said mother Salpi Dunlap, after watching her 5-year-old son, who had no prior musical training, play parts of Row Row Row Your Boat by ear.

Years of mind imaging research across multiple studies have shown musical training helps forge new connections in the brain--when done right. A 2008 study by Professor Frances Rauscher concluded, "...music instruction in [our] experiment not only boosted general intelligence," but specifically, "stronger developments in visual-spatial skills."

Julliard alumnus Dr. Joshua Garrett led the development team behind DoReMi 1-2-3.

"We're beyond the idea now that simply listening to Mozart can improve your kid's cognition," said Garrett. "It's been thrilling to see kids have so much fun while they actually learn to play songs by ear."

Consumers are taking note of the benefits of musical training as well. Funosophy's nationwide research with 300 moms of young children found:

-- 3 of 4 moms agree that playing with music fundamentals will help train
her child's ear for better listening skills and language development.
-- 2 of 3 moms understand there is natural symmetry between music and math.
-- 88 percent of moms would like their children to grow up musically
inclined.
"With DoReMi 1-2-3, children can concentrate on having fun--while their ears do the learning!" said Funosophy CEO Nancy Zwiers.

To commemorate the launch and celebrate the holiday season, Creativity is offering customers who purchase the app two free song worlds until the end of the year--Jingle Bells and The Dreidel Song.

DoReMi 1-2-3 is available now on iPad for $2.99 on the App Store. iPhone compatibility coming soon.
