Disposable Film Festival Health Announces 2011 Award Winners

Practice Fusion teamed with the Disposable Film Festival to recruit original, moving stories of patients, doctors and health

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Practice Fusion announced today the winners of the Disposable Film Festival Health competition following a screening event held last week at the company's soon-to-be new headquarters in San Francisco's Union Square. Adonis Pulatus, creator of the winning film "The Princess," used time-lapse video to capture the story of a woman suffering from a serious illness. Pulatus was selected from submissions from all over the world for his standout work in creating an influential voice for the creative community in the healthcare industry.

"Raising awareness of patients and their stories has powerful and transformative potential," said Pulatus. Film submissions were evaluated for originality and thought-provoking stories about any health theme including patient experience, wellness, medical providers and the current health technology transformation. Judges included Ryan Howard from Practice Fusion, Disposable Film Festival co-founders Carlton Evans and Eric Slatkin, Disposable Film Festival associate director, Katie Gillum and Sundance-selected, award-winning editor and filmmaker Dalan McNabola.

The Disposable Film Festival Health finalists:

-- 1st Place Award - Adonis Pulatus - "The Princess" - This time-lapse film
was created for the Disposable Film Festival Health Competition 2011. It
chronicles an evening during which a beautiful woman visits her good
friend and hairdresser for a makeover session. The film begins to reveal
that the woman is suffering from a serious illness.
-- 2nd Place Award - Joao Monteiro - "Size Zero" - This animated film is
based on Dr. Luca Savorelli paper, "Thinness and Obesity: A model of
food consumption, health concerns and social pressure." The film queries
whether increasing the ideal body weight is socially desirable, both
from a welfare and health point of view.
-- 3rd Place Award - Zubin Damania, MD (ZDoggMD) - "Immunize" -The film
uses humor and music to diffuse the controversy over vaccination.
Leading Bay Area physicians sing about the dangers of pseudoscience and
encourage public health.

Pulatus will be awarded a $5,000 cash prize for his winning entry. All finalists' films are available to view online. The competition was collaboration with the Disposable Film Festival, named one of America's "coolest film festivals," that hosts events around the world to showcase filmmaking using accessible, non-professional equipment such as cell phone cameras.
