Conference on Free Speech Announced by The City Club of Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- To kick off its 100th Anniversary Celebration, The City Club of Cleveland is hosting a Conference on Free Speech Oct. 10th to explore how free speech rights are being redefined in today's society.

The one-day conference will include keynote addressesby CBS News Chairman and 60 Minutes Executive Producer Jeffrey Fager and Fox News Political Analyst Juan Williams, along with a series of panel discussions featuring speakers known for their role in shaping free speech in the United States. Conference panel topics and confirmed panelists to-date include:

Free Speech in the Age of Internet: How the Internet has created instant, unfiltered communication, creating a new global forum for free speech while challenging our notions of civil discourse, privacy and cultural security. Moderator: Patrick Kabat.Panelists: Geoffrey Robertson, Q.C., Cindy Cohn, David McCraw and Alan Davidson.

World Have Your Say: A Global Conversation on Free Speech in the Age of Terror: Challenges of governmental transparency and unfettered reporting posed by concerns of national security. The BBC will be broadcasting World Have Your Say live. Moderator: Ros Atkins. Panelists: Scott Horton, Steve Dettelbach and Jameel Jaffer. After the broadcast, the conversation continues with Michael Scharf moderating.

Free Speech in the Political Arena: Civility in political discourse will take center stage with the challenges posed by budget deficits, the cultural divide, changes in campaign contributions, the slumping economy and joblessness. Moderator: Gwen Ifill. Panelists: Bruce Sanford, Bradley Smith, Susan Glasser and Peter Baker.

Free Speech in the Music Industry: Rock, Rap and the boundaries of acceptable speech. Moderator: Lauren Onkey. Panelists: Terry Stewart, Kembrew McLeod and Dave Marsh.
