NEW YORK, Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The September Concert will light up communities around the world with song, dance, music and poetry from Friday, September 9 through Monday, September 12.

Founded on the first anniversary of September 11, The September Concert is a New York-based now GLOBAL event organizing free concerts in parks, schools, churches, office plazas, senior centers - everywhere music is welcomed and celebrated.

A new beginning for New York City, and indeed the entire country, is signaled by the approaching 10th anniversary of September 11. This year will mark a transformative moment for us all.

In New York City alone, over 60 concerts and performances will be held, The September Concert will also be held in cities around the nation, including Chandler and Mesa, Arizona; Bakersfield, San Francisco, Menlo Park, Oakland, Los Angeles, Palm Desert, Santa Barbara, Tulare, California; Elberton and LaGrange, Georgia; Fort Branch, Indiana; Elkader, Iowa; Lexington, Kentucky; Baltimore, Maryland; Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Plainsboro, New Jersey, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Durham and Lenoir, North Carolina; Stillwater, Oklahoma; Providence, Rhode Island; and Austin, Fort Worth, Houston, and South Padre Island, Texas.

Some of these cities will participate in A National Requiem of Remembrance: a 9/11/11 project of choral groups across the country singing Mozart's Requiem.

The September Concert celebration will extend around the world to an astounding range of cities: London, Tokyo, St. Petersburg, Pavlovsk (Russia), Casablanca, Nairobi, Tamale (Ghana), Windhoek (Namibia), Cuernavaca, Sydney and Cap Haitian ... among many others.

Rome will host five concerts, including a performance, conducted by Lorin Maazel, of Brahms' Requiem Tedesco at the Auditorium Parco della Musica. 57 concerts in over 30 cities will fill the skies of Japan. The September Concert newcomer Poland will host seven concerts in Poznan, while the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw will present a September Symphony commemorative work by Wojciech Kilar.

Organizers in Port-de-Paix, Haiti, state that "The September Concert provides an ideal opportunity for creating community projects ... This year provisions are being made to accommodate 2,000 people in the historical Port-de-Paix, Haiti Cathedral Amphitheater ... The event will feature musicians, disc jockeys, photographers, an art gallery, a farmer's market and a petting zoo ... The expo is being utilized as a Port-de-Paix model city program for other urban metropolises."

One of this year's highlights is a Sing-and-Dance-Along to The September Concert's signature song Give Us Hope, written by Jim Papouis. The shared performance will take places in cities around the country and the world.

In New York City, children, adults, passers-by and tourists alike will participate at Central Park's Merchant's Gate at 5th Avenue and 59th Street at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 9.

Anyone can learn the dance and/or song on YouTube (look for "Give us Hope dance"), which features fabulous teaching videos created by the Young People's Chorus of NYC and dancers from the National Dance Institute. The Sing-and-Dance-Along can be performed anywhere, anytime during the month of September. (Post and share on YouTube!)

Join us for the world's biggest SING-AND-DANCE ALONG!

It's easy. It's fun. It will make your heart soar.

We move with reverence and mirth,
Dancing the rhythms of the earth ...
