Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. was born into Hollywood royalty. His father was the swashbuckling actor Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., and his stepmother was "America's Sweetheart," actress Mary Pickford. During World War II, he left his film career and served with the British Royal Navy's Commandos. He then returned home and helped establish the clandestine "Beach Jumpers," the precursor to today's Navy SEALS.

Items in the auction include a 1941 signed photograph of Winston Churchill estimated at $2,500-3,500 and inscribed photographs of U.S. Presidents from F.D.R. to George H.W. Bush, in addition to Hollywood stars and the British Royal family. Guest books from the Fairbanks' homes feature signatures of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Princess Margaret, Princess Grace of Monaco, Clark Gable, Mary Pickford, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, and others.

His collection of fine accessories is highlighted by an 18-karat gold Patek Philippe wristwatch, monogrammed "D.F. Jr." (est. $5,000-7,000) and exquisite cufflinks of gold and platinum set with pearls, diamonds and other stones.

The auction offers an extensive selection of bespoke suits, formal wear and jackets made for Fairbanks by some of the most prestigious tailors on London's Savile Row. Also featured are custom footwear by Henry Maxwell and John Lobb, Ltd. and vintage resort wear by Lily Pulitzer.

The deluxe souvenir catalogue with an introduction by Vera Fairbanks is available for $25. The free, fully illustrated Internet catalogue may be viewed at DoyleNewYork.com. For information call 212-427-2730 or visit DoyleNewYork.com.
