Cox 11's Award Winning "Homecoming" Special Features the USS Keasarge, Ponce and Carter Hall in Latest Special
~ Special will premiere on Sat., July 2 exclusively on Cox 11 ~
CHESAPEAKE, Va., June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Channel 11 continues its support of military families in its latest special coverage of "Homecoming: A Cox Video Diary," with a snapshot of the USS Keasarge, USS Ponce, USS Carter Hall and the "Sunliners" of Strike Fighter Squadron EIGHT ONE (VFA-81) Homecomings. This thirty minute special will premiere Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 5:30 pm on Cox Channel 11 and will be available for additional viewing at leisure through Cox's On-Demand channel 2069.
Join Cox from the docks, on the flight line, and at the base, to capture the moment of return as some of the major recent deployments of local servicemen and servicewomen come to an end.
"These special presentations give us a chance to share and experience the reunion of local military personnel with their loved ones, at home. It is Cox's way of saying thank you to these service men and women -- and just as importantly, their families," says Kathryn Falk, Vice President of Government Affairs for Cox Virginia.
The Keasarge's nearly 2,000 sailors spent nine months performing various tasks from humanitarian relief in Pakistan, to military support in Libya. The Keasarge was joined by the amphibious transport dock, Ponce, and the dock landing ship, Carter Hall. This group delivered the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit to Afghanistan on short notice in order to perform ground missions. The nine month stint was longer than the normal six month deployment which made the reunions with family members even that much more memorable. VFA-81 completed more than 4,000 flight hours in their F/A-18E "Super Hornet" aircrafts, with more than 350 combat missions in support of ground troops.
Through emotional images and interviews captured, Cox 11 was able to document the stories of the commitment, sacrifice, longing, and joy that are all interwoven with long separations and missions overseas by these servicemen and women, and their families.
