Microspace Digital Cinema Movie Delivery via Satellite Drives Growth in Alternative and Live Content for 2011

Company Continues to Lead Delivery of Digital Cinema via Satellite Reducing Costs and Increasing Efficiencies

RALEIGH, N.C. and LOS ANGELES, April 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Microspace Communications Corporation (Microspace), the leading distributor of digital cinema via satellite, announced today that its leadership position in satellite movie delivery is providing great growth for alternative and live content in 2011, with 19 events already slated to run in 2011. To date, Microspace has delivered more than 70 total films to 3,500 screens across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Microspace continued to deliver a constant stream of first run feature movies via satellite in 2010 for four different major studios. Additionally, Microspace delivered nine live events from alternative content distributors to its rapidly growing LiveCinema network.

"Carmike's decision to incorporate satellite delivery is because of the combined benefits of reliability and ease of use," said David Passman, president and CEO, Carmike Cinema. "Microspace satellite delivery also provides us with the ability to take advantage of offering live alternative content which increases our overall revenue while providing theatergoers with exciting content to choose."

Since 2005, the company has delivered 72 major motion pictures from nine studios, including the first 3-D movie and the first 4K movie via satellite using its VELOCITY® system. Microspace now services 260 theaters within the United States, Mexico and Canada including Allen Theaters, AMC, Carmike Cinemas, Celebration! Cinema, Cineplex Entertainment, Mann Theaters, Marquee Cinemas, Megaplex and Ultrastar Cinemas.

"As digital cinema continues to mature, Microspace's satellite services continue to provide both studios and exhibitors with the most secure and reliable delivery of digital content to the big screen," said Joe Amor, vice president and general manager, Microspace. "Combined with the cost savings and reduced theatre workload, electronic delivery of theatrical content via satellite is rapidly becoming the preferred method of distribution for content owners."

"Our customers recognize Microspace's leadership in digital cinema satellite delivery and appreciate our 20 years of experience, dedicated satellites and in-house technical service teams that ensure complete network reliability, saving delivery costs for studios and hard-drive costs for exhibitors," said Curt Tilly, manager of digital cinema distribution, Microspace. "To date we have saved our combined exhibitor partners literally hundreds of thousands of dollars compared to the costs of hard-drive deliveries."

Satellite distribution offers movie studios live event and alternative content providers a less labor-intense process that is scalable, secure and cost-effective. For exhibitors, satellite distribution provides ease of use and rapid deployment of live/ alternative content through the existing satellite equipment.
