Ira Glass Returns to Baltimore May 3 for "This American Life" Road Show Benefitting Non-Profit and Transformation School Championed by High School Friend

BALTIMORE, April 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- When Ira Glass and Dana Stein were classmates at Baltimore County's Milford Mill High School neither young man could have imagined that their interests and careers would touch the lives of so many people. Although both men would make a stop in Washington, D.C., during their career, each became public figures on different paths, one in journalism and broadcast media and the other in non-profits and politics.

Glass, now living in New York, is radio host of NPR's critically acclaimed This American Life, which reaches 1.8 million listeners on 500 public radio stations across the nation. His show is heard locally on WYPR 88.1 FM and WAMU 88.5 FM. The television adaptation of the program has earned three Emmy awards.

Stein, a resident of the Sudbrook Park area, is founder and executive director of Civic Works, Baltimore's nationally recognized urban service corps and an AmeriCorps program. Civic Works also operates REACH! Partnership School, a college and career focused Baltimore City Public School. Stein also serves in the Maryland House of Delegates, where he is in his second term representing District 11.

Glass and Stein will come full circle on May 3 for a benefit at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland to support Civic Works and REACH! Partnership School. The event, An Evening with Ira Glass, will feature stories from This American Life. The show will be presented at LeClerc Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a VIP reception at Doyle Hall. On May 3 when the two Baltimore natives return to their roots they will share an incredible body of knowledge and success which all began at Milford Mill High School, and has since touched many lives in Maryland and across the nation.

This American Life began broadcasting in Chicago in 1995 and became a nationally syndicated program the following year. The program has been awarded the highest honors for broadcasting and journalistic excellence, including several Peabody and DuPont-Columbia awards. In 2009, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting presented Glass with the coveted Edward R. Murrow Award for outstanding contributions to public radio.
