HOUSTON, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Puerto Ricans and Cubans have an opportunity to celebrate and be proud of their contributions to the world through the now legendary Puerto Rican & Cuban Festival taking place in Houston each year during the fall. The festival will honor the life of renowned Puerto Rican poet Julia de Burgos with the unveiling of a stamp recently released by the U.S. Postal Service. The ceremony will include officials from the Postal Service and local community leaders.

The PRC Festival this year will include a historical and educational exhibit of the Borinqueneers. This is a Puerto Rican Club designed to educate younger generations by honoring the only segregated Hispanic Battalion in the United States Army, lead and composed of only Puerto Rican soldiers in the United States Armed Forces who served in WW-I, WW-2, Korea, Vietnam, and Pearl Harbor. The contributions to the United States that these Puerto Rican soldiers endured were never recorded in the history books. A few of these Puerto Rican U.S. veterans continue documenting their journey, and will be at the Festival to share their personal story.

Performers of the festival include international headliners and Grammy Award Winner Grupo Mania, and Four Times Grammy nominee Plena Libre. Additionally, six orchestras will perform including Angelucho y Copa Cabana, Mi Rumba, Rectorado del Son. Dance showcases will highlight the history of Salsa featuring the #1 Salsa Choreographers in Puerto Rico and the world; Tito and Tamara.

"Each year the Puerto Rican & Cuban Festival is a moment to be proud to be Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, and celebrate our culture," said Javier Ferrer, the lead organizer and creator of the Puerto Rican & Cuban Festival. "We honor this year those who have made history and those who are proud of their Spanish Caribbean heritage, music, food and contributions to the world, and for that, we celebrate."

In addition to the musical performances, Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican restaurants will offer Caribbean delicacies. A portion of the PRC Festival proceeds will be donated to Project Arise helping victims of domestic abuse.

Sponsors of the PRC Festival include Bud Light, Cricket Wireless, Red Bull, Orbit, Goya Foods, Houston Astros, Ferrer Productions, among others.
