'The People's Court' and FBI-SOS Produce PSA Promoting Internet Safety

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "The People's Court" and FBI-SOS (Safe Online Surfing) initiative has produced public service announcements (PSA) explaining the importance of internet safety and encouraging schools to participate in the FBI's internet educational program. The PSAs have been distributed to the show's affiliates and are being made available to other outlets.

This is the second generation of PSAs created by "The People's Court." The initial PSA, produced in 2007, was successful in helping the FBI-SOS initiative reach a national audience and inspired many educators to adopt the program

Judge Marilyn Milian, the former Florida state circuit judge currently presiding over "The People's Court," is an FBI-SOS spokesperson. Milian became an advocate for personal and professional reasons.

"As a mother of three school-age children, safe access to the internet is paramount," said Milian. "If I can open the eyes of one middle school child, one parent or one school, my involvement will have been a success."

"All kids want to be online and don't think about the consequences of what they are saying or doing," added Milian. "You would be amazed at how many litigants come into my courtroom and the other
side produces online evidence and they (litigants) are surprised! People don't think before they send something over the internet and they think if they take down a post or a picture it is gone but it's not."

With close to 200 affiliates having the PSA to air throughout the day, the exposure the FBI-SOS program receives is priceless.

Designed to meet state and federal internet safety mandates, the FBI-SOS Internet Challenge is a free educational program delivering critical internet safety information in a fun, competitive format for 3rd through 8th graders. At the end of each month, the schools with the highest-scoring students in each grade are rewarded with a trophy presentation by an FBI Special Agent.

Since the program's inception in 2005, more than 70,000 students in 41 states have participated in the FBI-SOS Internet Challenge.
