WXYZ-TV Announces New Investigative Reporter
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- WXYZ-TV announces senior staff reporter Bill Proctor will officially join the Channel 7 special projects unit as an investigative reporter. Proctor has been with ABC affiliate, WXYZ-TV, since 1980. As a result of Proctor's recent groundbreaking investigations, Police Chief Warren Evans was forced out of office, and after mismanagement was brought to light in a Proctor report, the Director of Detroit City Airport was forced to resign.
"I've always considered journalism a public service," said Proctor. "It's nice to tell people what's going on in their communities, but it's even more important to be able to investigate wrongdoing and find justice for people in those communities."
"We're fortunate to have a journalist with Bill's experience and passion on our investigative team," said WXYZ News Director, Tim Dye. "Bill brings a wealth of knowledge to the job, and reaffirms our commitment to investigative news. Channel 7's ability to bring our viewers groundbreaking investigative reports is unmatched in this market."
A former police officer for the Federal Protection Service in Washington, D.C., Proctor's passion for justice inspired him to create a non-profit organization called Proving Innocence. The organization calls attention to cases of injustice in the legal system and works to exonerate those wrongly convicted of crimes.
Before joining WXYZ-TV, Proctor worked for KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, WDAF-TV in Kansas City, and WAVY-TV in Norfolk, Virginia.
Proctor's many awards for journalistic excellence include, The Michigan Association of Broadcasters Best Coverage Award for breaking news, The Ed King Memorial Award, the Outstanding Media Award from Michigan's Crime Prevention Association, and the Golden Quill Award.
Proctor, a Washington D.C. native, received a degree in sociology and corrections from the University of Maryland. He is married with three children and three grandchildren.
