Yoga Revolution CD by Sarah McLachlan, Sting, Sheryl Crow, Others Raises Funds for Schools

Kids Yoga classes aim to get kids moving to combat childhood obesity

LOS ANGELES, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- What do musical icons Sarah McLachlan, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Sheryl Crow and other stars have in common with elementary school children throughout the U.S. - Yoga Revolution. These musical icons and others united to increase in-school health education by raising funds for kids yoga and fitness programs during the 2010-2011 school year with a compilation CD entitled Yoga Revolution. The CD was produced as part of EarthTones' Music With a Heart program and released through Time Life and Nettwerk's NuTone label.

The CD was produced by multi-Platinum selling producer, Grammy-nominated songwriter and yogi, Frank Fitzpatrick, founder of EarthTones, a non-profit arts organization committed to raising social consciousness and connecting people across the globe through the power of music and media. Nettwerk Music CEO and yogi Terry McBride was the executive producer for the project and is donating the net proceeds to benefit the Yoga Health Foundation's health education and fitness programs. In the last three months alone, over 4,000 school teachers have asked to be a part of these programs.

"Our goal is to help the Foundation provide the materials and support so these teachers, and many more across the nation, can offer desperately needed programs to their students," said Fitzpatrick, who brought together musical icons: Sting, Peter Gabriel, Sheryl Crow; along with international artists: Angelique Kidjo, Anoushka Shankar, Ziggy Marley; and rising kirtan stars: Krishna Das, Deva Premal, Donna De Lory -- all on one CD. ''Yoga Revolution is the first benefit album featuring musical stars of this stature that raises funds to introduce kids to the joys of yoga.''

The CD is receiving critical acclaim. Yoga Journal called Yoga Revolution "a sweet, uplifting look into how various artists devote themselves to love, peace, and spirituality in their own creative ways.'' Yoga Journal will be featuring the CD, along with participating artist Sarah McLachlan, in their 35th Anniversary issue this September. Yoga Revolution will also be the official CD of Yoga Health Foundation's ''Yoga Month'' this September, as part of their national month-long campaign to promote the health benefits of yoga.

The critical need for these programs was emphasized earlier this year by Michelle Obama by her national initiative, "Let's Move,'' calling for action to combat childhood obesity. The rate of obesity among children and adolescents in the United States has nearly tripled between the early 1980s and 2000.

The Yoga Revolution CD includes an inspiring and diverse 14-track mix ranging from Irish folk, a rock anthem and bilingual world music, to 5,000 year-old Vedic chants over Hip Hop beats -- even a kirtan reworking of the Yardbirds 1965 hit: For Your Love. The CD is available at local music retailers, through www.amazon.com, or by making a donation at www.earthtones.org.
