RT Nominated for Two Golden Nymphs at Monte Carlo Television Festival

MOSCOW, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- RT Channel is nominated for two Golden Nymph awards at the world's biggest annual Monte Carlo Television Festival that celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year.

RT's "Urban Decay" (Mortal Motor City: Detroit on the Edge), a four-minute story on Detroit, a once booming capital of the U.S. auto industry, and currently seized by the acute unemployment accompanied with a crime surge, is running for the top prize in Best TV News Package category. Reaching the finals in Best 24-Hour News Programme is "Nightclub Horror," RT's coverage of the tragic fire at the nightclub Lame Horse in the Russian city of Perm.

RT's co-runners for top prize are several leading world TV channels including BBC News, Sky News, CNN, FRANCE 24, among others. The festival juries traditionally include the leading personalities in the world's television industry. Invited as judges for the 50th anniversary show are, among others, the prominent British director John Boorman (President); Cindy Strand, CNN Director of Coverage for International News; Sue Phillips, Al Jazeera Director of Foreign Bureaus and Development; and, from Russia, TV presenter Vladimir Pozner and Head of News RT/English Irakly Gachechiladze.

Its main prize and symbol is the Golden Nymph, a golden copy of the "Salamacis" Nymph, the original of which is on show at the Louvre in Paris.
