Comcast Partners With Boston Police to Launch 'Police Blotter On Demand'

Partnership Will Help Track Down Dangerous Fugitives In and Around Boston

BOSTON, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast, one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, information and communications, today announced that it has joined forces with the Boston Police Department to launch a new tool that will help track down the fugitives responsible for committing crime in the Boston community and bringing them to justice. "Police Blotter On Demand" is the first public service programming of its kind in Massachusetts to utilize video-on-demand to expose dangerous criminals and make communities safer.

Through Comcast's signature On Demand service, local digital cable customers can tune into "Police Blotter On Demand" to view regularly updated photographs and short descriptions of 16 different cases. Viewers who have information regarding a wanted suspect are encouraged to contact the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or text the word 'TIP' to CRIME (27463). A viewer's tip can be provided completely anonymous.

"We are committed to doing our part to make the neighborhoods of Boston and beyond safer and providing On Demand programming that is meaningful to our local community," said Mary McLaughlin, Area Vice President for Comcast. "Police Blotter On Demand is a powerful tool to help expose unsolved crimes and wanted suspects to a wider audience and increase the chances of their apprehension."

The Boston Police will identify the cases or fugitives to be featured through the innovative On Demand service. Each crime profiled on Police Blotter is either a wanted person or an unsolved case that the Boston Police is actively working to close. Individuals profiled are wanted for a variety of crimes including robbery, assault and drug-related offenses.

Police Commissioner Edward Davis stated, "Effective policing is built on connection, which is why the Boston Police Department is pleased to partner with Comcast to offer this new and innovative way to communicate with the community." Commissioner Davis added, "We greatly appreciate Comcast's commitment to public safety and for providing the Boston Police an additional opportunity to promote and implement our mission of community policing."

Police Blotter segments are available under the "Get Local" folder found through the On Demand menu. As fugitives are captured, their profiles will be removed and others will be added.

Comcast's On Demand service offers a growing library of more than 17,000 programs available anytime customers want to watch them - with the ability to fast forward, rewind and pause selections. The vast majority of On Demand programming is available at no additional cost to digital cable customers. Comcast customers have watched more than 15 billion On Demand programs since the service first launched in 2003.
