3ality Digital Projects Take Multiple Awards at Dimension 3 Expo

The Caretaker 3D and Black Eyed Peas' "Meet Me Halfway" Win Dimmy Awards for Outstanding Stereoscopic 3D

BURBANK, Calif., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Two stereoscopic 3D (S3D) projects powered by 3ality Digital (www.3alitydigital.com) were recognized for excellence at the Dimension 3 Festival, part of the Dimension 3 Expo, in Paris. The Caretaker 3D, starring Dick Van Dyke, took the Dimmy Award for Short Film, and a groundbreaking production of the Black Eyed Peas performing "Meet Me Halfway" was honored in the Live 3D category.

Since its inception, Dimension 3 (www.dimension3-expo.com) has supported the development and promotion of all types of S3D content. The D3 Festival began hosting its film competition as a means of recognizing the world's best S3D work being displayed in cinemas, immersive venues or on television screens.

The Caretaker 3D, which utilized 3ality Digital's systems, is based on a 1930s legend of a caretaker who lived behind the "l" of the world-renowned landmark Hollywood sign. In the short, Van Dyke plays the caretaker whose job it is to replace the bulbs that illuminated the sign when it read "Hollywoodland." Shot by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Allen Daviau ("ET"), with Director Sean Isroelit and Producer Jeffrey Amaral, the light-hearted film beautifully demonstrates that S3D can enhance any movie genre.

The Black Eyed Peas' performance of "Meet Me Halfway" was part of the live S3D concert simulcast on March 30, 2010. The Black Eyed Peas' sold-out performance at the Staples Center in Los Angeles was the first concert in the US to be transmitted live in S3D, and was viewed by an enthusiastic audience at the brand new Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14. The milestone event, which was part of the band's The E.N.D. World Tour LIVE, also featured a 30-minute exclusive program including behind-the-scenes footage and band interviews.

"We're thrilled to see our work recognized by the D3 Festival's international jury," said 3ality Digital Director of Production Ted Kenney, who also directed the Black Eyed Peas S3D concert. "It's an honor to be singled out by an illustrious group of professionals who share our passion for creating exceptional S3D content and sharing it with the world."

About 3ality Digital

3ality Digital develops enabling technologies to power live-action stereoscopic 3D (S3D) entertainment from image capture through presentation, independent of viewing environment. 3ality Digital's camera platforms, stereo image processing systems, and S3D image scaling technologies are quickly earning a reputation as the "gold standard" for the emerging medium, and are rapidly being adopted by broadcasters, production companies, studios and consumer electronics manufacturers. 3ality Digital's systems are optimized to handle the demands of live S3D broadcast, offering such must-haves as fast setup, perfectly aligned zooms, accurate imagery right from the camera, and automation that reduces the number of required production personnel.

3ality Digital technology has powered a number of live-action firsts, including U2 3D, the first movie shot completely in digital live-action S3D; the first live S3D broadcast of an NFL game (Raiders vs. Chargers, Dec. 4th, 2008); the first live S3D sports broadcasts available to consumers, including the 2009 BCS Championship Game, BSkyB's landmark Manchester United vs. Arsenal soccer broadcast and the first network hockey telecast ever produced in S3D (New York Rangers vs. Islanders, March 24, 2010, on MSG); the first S3D commercial broadcast on television (Sobe "Lizard Lake,"); and the first episode of a scripted television series shot in digital live-action S3D (Chuck vs. The Third Dimension, aired on NBC on Feb. 2, 2009).
