Star of TV's The Doctors Helping Put Smiles on Faces of Needy Children in India

'It is extremely rewarding to see the look on a child's face after performing one of these procedures.'

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Andrew Ordon, co-host of TV's The Doctors, is travelling to Varanasi, India on behalf of the Smile Train charity to perform cleft lip and palate surgeries on children there. From March 2-9, Dr. Ordon will be working with Dr. Subodh Singh, the plastic surgeon featured in the film Smile Pinkie. The procedures will be filmed for an upcoming episode of The Doctors.

"Cleft palates are a major problem for children in developing countries, and we want to help those children look and feel good about themselves," says Ordon, who has participated in the program before. "It is extremely rewarding to see the look on a child's face after performing one of these procedures, and to have that child smile at me, maybe for the first time, is priceless."

The Smile Train oversees more than 100,000 surgeries a year in 77 of the world's poorest countries. The organization also provides children with dental care, orthodontics and speech therapy after surgery is completed.

"I am proud to be taking part in such a worthwhile endeavor," continues Dr. Ordon. "The Smile Train has already helped so many children, and I'm looking forward to experiencing such an incredible outreach effort firsthand."
