Master Spy Brings True-Life Details to Scripts and Manuscript
BURBANK, Calif., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- "My life is a lot more difficult to believe than fiction," said Dr. Julio Antonio Del Marmol, a former Cuban freedom fighter and spy for the global intelligence community. Del Marmol aims to tell his story via a media franchise (http://www.spymasterspy.com/) that he has dubbed "The Lightning" in memory of the code name that he held as a spy.
Under the project umbrella of "Cuban Lightning," Del Marmol has written 14 screenplays, a television series script and 12 manuscripts, all of which touch on aspects of his fight against communist dictator Fidel Castro and totalitarianism. He is currently in negotiations with production companies and publishers.
The novel is his second book, the first being a Spanish language work titled "Cuba: Russian Roulette of America," which was published in 1976 and won a 2008 award from the National Latin American Institute for Journalists for exposing the corruption and barbarities of Castro's regime.
Del Marmol's father was the lead funder of Castro's Revolution in 1959, and at the age of 12, Del Marmol became a commander in the Rebel Army and was charged with forming its youth army. Del Marmol gained a place in Castro's inner circle, but he came to realize that his colleagues were lying to the Cuban people and siphoning off wealth for themselves.
Del Marmol spent 10 years transmitting information about Castro's activities to the global intelligence community, but his cover was blown in 1971 and he swam for 10 hours to the Guantanamo Bay Navel Base. In 1988, he headed an operation called the Zipper, which was instrumental in the collapse of totalitarian regimes worldwide.
One mission resulted in the largest counterfeiting seizure in United States history, for which Del Marmol was given a slap on the wrist. "All press coverage of that incident has been erased except for a sole Associated Press article in the 'Deseret News' newspaper (http://www.deseretnews.com/article/18255/FAKE-BILLS-CONFISCATED.html)," he said. "Even information on the Kennedy assassination has been released to the public; my case is still sealed."
"I started a series of events that cost me more than I ever imagined," Del Marmol stated on his Web site. His novel manuscript, titled "The Zipper," is an account of the assassination of his son in retaliation for his first book and the actions he took against the hit man. An audio excerpt is available at http://www.spymasterspy.com/.
Another screenplay covers his escape from Cuba and assassination attempts on his life. Del Marmol has survived 56 assassination attempts, the most recent being a car-bombing attempt in 2007. His miniseries script, "One More Attempt," details the incidents. A trailer and treatment are available on the Web site.
In addition to having a Ph.D. in animal genetics, Del Marmol is also an accomplished musician and composer and created the music on the Web site.
