Young Aspiring Filmmakers Go Green on the Big Screen

National Guard Docs Program Premieres Documentaries by America's future filmmakers for Your Vote

CHICAGO, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- National Guard Docs, a groundbreaking film program, gave young adults, ages 17-22, the chance to create thought-provoking documentaries that examined what "going green" meant to the National Guard. The aspiring filmmakers received unprecedented access to create the documentaries and now through February 15, America can log onto www.fresh-docs.com to view and vote for their favorite green film.

The National Guard was looking for a fresh perspective to showcase their green initiatives in communities across the country. National Guard Docs was created to accomplish just that, by giving young adults the chance to explore and share this story with America. These filmmakers are digging deeper than ever to uncover how the National Guard efforts are making America a greener place.

"It's empowering to be a part of National Guard Docs because it gives us [youth] a unique platform to use our voice to discuss one of the most important issues to our generation -- going green," noted Megan Mazur, National Guard Docs filmmaker for South Carolina National Guard Docs crew.

DOCUMENTARIES GO BEHIND THE SCENES OF GOING GREEN

Young adults, all between the ages 17-22, selected for the National Guard Docs experience went on location to South Carolina, Nevada, Minnesota and Texas, where they interviewed experts in the field, asked the tough questions and uncovered the ways the Guard is going green.

Their documentaries explore how the National Guard is:
-- protecting wolf dens and conducting wildlife research in the Minnesota
wilderness
-- developing the nation's largest solar power array deep in the Nevada
desert
-- strengthening coral reef systems by dropping obsolete armored vehicles
into the Atlantic off the coast of South Carolina
-- implementation of a statewide environmental sustainability plan in
Texas

Now America is getting their turn to witness the stories they captured on camera as the documentaries premiere online at www.fresh-docs.com.

AMERICA VOTES GREEN

Millions across America will now have their turn to weigh-in on these documentaries by viewing and voting at www.fresh-docs.com. America is asked to cast their votes for the green effort they support most. Viewing and voting is unlimited online through February 15. The crew behind America's favorite green documentary will be celebrated with a film festival premiere and receive Flip UltraHD video cameras so they can continue capturing the world around them everywhere they go.

Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Walls added, "When I say today's Guard is green, I'm not just taking about our uniforms. The fact is, in addition to our core mission of protecting America, today's Guard is leading the way in dozens of innovative programs that help protect our environment and conserve our nation's natural resources."
