'Warmathon' Is Raising Money To Help Low-Income Families Stay Warm
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2010 NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund, a 31-hour live broadcast from the PPG Wintergarden from Thursday, February 11- Friday, February 12, is in full swing to raise funds to help low-income families maintain safe utility service. This is the second year KDKA has joined Dollar Energy Fund to keep local Pittsburghers healthy and warm.
Since 1983, Dollar Energy Fund has helped low-income families and senior citizens on fixed incomes maintain or restore utility service through smart, efficient programs including emergency assistance, payment counseling and weatherization. The 2010 NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund will raise funds to support the organization's Hardship Program, a utility assistance program that provides grants to low-income households. Funding generated by the Warmathon will stay in the Pittsburgh area.
"Our goal is to spread the warmth to more than 1400 families in the Pittsburgh area," said Cindy Datig, chief executive officer of Dollar Energy Fund. Local utilities, including Allegheny Power, Columbia Gas, Peoples Gas, Duquesne Light and Equitable Gas along with Ohio Valley General Hospital, other corporations, small businesses and volunteers are joining NewsRadio 1020 KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund in this effort.
The PPG Wintergarden in Downtown Pittsburgh has been buzzing since 5:00 a.m. Volunteers have been answering calls to accept donations and 'Pedaling for Power'. KDKA will be broadcasting live until 10:00 p.m. and entertainment is scheduled this afternoon and evening.
KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund invite Pittsburghers to Spread the Warmth and help meet the Warmathon's goal.
