MEXICO CITY, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of an ongoing effort to support debate on the development of Mexico, Grupo Salinas is proud to announce the forum "Analisis De La Nueva Reforma Politica: La Democracia Que Tenemos, El Estado Que Queremos," which was held jointly by Caminos de la Libertad and the Fundacion Freidrich Naumann at Mexico's National Autonomous University (UNAM) to discuss important aspects of proposed political reform in Mexico.
The event brings together top scholars, intellectuals and electoral institute representatives to discuss issues such as re-election of members of Congress, reducing the size of the Mexican Congress and requiring an absolute majority for presidential elections.
The roundtable discussions were as follows:
-- "Immediate re-election of members of congress and municipal leaders" with Congressman Jaime Cardenas, Professor Andres Lajous and Guillermo Garcia.
-- "Electoral reform: reducing the size of Congress, two-round run-off system, threshold of representation" with Dr. Jorge Alcocer, Dr. Miguel Carbonell and Dr. Emilio Zebadua.
-- "Executive-Legislative relations: Preferred initiatives, partial veto, ratification of the Cabinet" with Professor Jeffrey Weldon, Dr. Andres Ponce de Leon, Dr. Hector Fix-Fierro and Guillermo Xiuh Tenorio.
-- "Citizen participation: Citizen initiatives, independent candidates, plebiscites, referendums, impeachment" with IFE Commissioner Benito Nacif, Mexico City IFE Commissioner Yolanda Leon and Dr. Jose Antonio Crespo.
