WXYZ-TV and the American Red Cross Join Forces to Bring 'Help for Haiti'

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- WXYZ-TV, Channel 7 will unite with the American Red Cross to bring "Help for Haiti". Haiti today faces a crisis of unprecedented proportion. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake and the devastating aftershocks have forever changed the lives of over 2.5 million Haitians.

On Tuesday, January 19, beginning on Channel 7 Action News at 5 p.m. and continuing through Action News at 7:00 p.m., WXYZ-TV will host a live telethon to raise funds for the relief efforts in Haiti. Then at 7:30 p.m., Channel 7 will preempt local programming to broadcast a half hour telethon special dedicated to raising funds for Haitian relief. Funds raised will support the work of The American Red Cross to supply food, water, temporary shelter, medical services and emotional support to victims in Haiti. Every dollar raised through the telethon will go directly to the "Help for Haiti" fund.

"When a catastrophic event of this magnitude occurs, it's critical that all of us do whatever we can in an effort to provide assistance to the survivors whose lives are in complete turmoil," said Bob Sliva, WXYZ-TV Vice President and General Manager. "Channel 7 is proud to partner with the American Red Cross in their relief efforts in Haiti."
