Panovel Showcases iStream(TM), a Low Latency, Power-Efficient Wireless HD Video Technology for HD Video Streaming from Portable Devices to HDTV

Panovel's iStream(TM) Will do for Wireless HD Multimedia, what Bluetooth did for Audio

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Panovel Technology Corporation today demonstrated its wireless HD Video Streaming Solution. The solution is based on Panovel's iStream(TM) technology which has been incorporated into Panovel's new highly integrated single-chip SoC, the PN101. The solution allows wireless HD multimedia streaming and sharing amongst multimedia devices such as battery operated handheld smartphones, camcorders, cameras, and other power sensitive devices with very low latency and superior throughput thus delivering very high quality video and user experience.

The PN101 is a feature-rich, single-chip solution enabling OEMs to develop and offer cost-effective, feature-laden products to the consumer capable of wireless HD video streaming and sharing. Panovel's iStream(TM) features patented low latency scheduling technology for video streaming and interactive gaming applications, a two level scheduler for efficient utilization of bandwidth, with the lower level scheduler hardware accelerated. For throughput and efficiency optimization, iStream(TM) utilizes an array of advanced technologies including a patented packet aggregation / error mitigation algorithm, optimized sliding window implementation, deep hardware acceleration of MAC, and IO integration with data pre-fetching.

Panovel designed for power and cost savings from the outset, optimizing from system / architecture level to every critical block to achieve its goals. For example, its two layer intelligent memory management method allows support of HD video streaming without the need for external memory. Further cost and power savings are achieved by implementing a mixed-signal, single-chip design in low power CMOS process technology with integrated 3-8GHz RF capable of 500MHz bandwidth per channel and sustained data rates of 200Mbps.

"Unlike 802.11n-based solutions, which utilize CSMA protocol, Panovel chose TDMA protocol. "We chose TDMA because it meets the higher QoS requirements of wireless HD video streaming. TDMA provides a connection oriented, very low latency, dedicated bandwidth resulting in a superior predictable end user experience than 802.11. On the contrary, 802.11n cannot control the latency, the key QoS requirement for wireless HD video, in the congested unregulated ISM band due to interference from heavily deployed 802.11a/b/g devices, Bluetooth devices, and even home appliances devices like microwave," explained company founder, Junfeng Wang. "We believe our iStream(TM) technology will do for wireless HD multimedia, what Bluetooth did for audio media 10 years ago."

Panovel Technology Corporation is a fabless semiconductor company focused on High Definition (HD) Multi-Media Wireless Communications, including HD video streaming for smartphones and other portable devices. Its ambitious entrepreneurs come from global technology companies such as Broadcom, Marvell, Qualcomm, and Conexant with a diverse background in IC design, from Baseband, RFIC, Mixed Signal and Firmware development. The company commenced operations on April 18th, 2008 at Zhangjiang High Tech Park, PuDong, Shanghai, China and has grown since to over 40 talented employees. It is backed by investments from GSR Ventures. For more information, visit www.panovel.com.
