Yahoo! En Espanol Reveals the Most POPular Searches for October

MIAMI, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Yahoo! En Espanol today announced its most popular Searches on Yahoo! Pop for the month ending October 31 (http://espanol.pop.yahoo.com/pop/10-2009/). Yahoo! Pop allows users to access the site and stay in touch with what's hot and use it as a resource to search for and spot trends. Information on Yahoo! Pop is available and searchable by day, month and category.

The Most Popular Searches in Yahoo! Pop for October include: Top 10 Overall Searches 1. Kate Beckinsale 2. Jessica Simpson 3. Anna Nicole Smith 4. Alejandra Guzman 5. San Judas Tadeo 6. Halloween 7. Selena Gomez 8. Jennifer Lopez 9. William Levy 10. Beyonce

Beautiful celebrities, court trials and tribulations, hospital horrors and the patron saint of lost causes were among the most popular searches conducted by Yahoo! En Espanol users during the month of October. Crowned the "Sexiest Woman Alive" by Esquire Magazine, British actress Kate Beckinsale topped last month's most popular list as users searched online for details on her and her newly bestowed title. Singer Jessica Simpson nabbed the number two spot on the list as she took to twitter to ask people to stop reporting the fake dog sightings of her dog Daisy, which was snatched by a coyote from her home on September 14. The deceased actress and former Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith continued to be of high interest among users as a California judge ruled for her boyfriend Howard K. Stern and two doctors to stand charges of fueling her addiction to prescription drugs. Mexican singer Alejandra Guzman gave much buzz last month after reports of a botched plastic surgery procedure to her buttocks landed her in the hospital in very serious condition for several days. Yahoo! En Espanol users also searched for the spooky and the spiritual - Halloween, celebrated on the 31st and San Judas Tadeo, the patron saint of lost causes, who is celebrated on October 28 by many Latin Americans, also topped the list. Other Pop favorites last month included Disney Channel's breakout star Selena Gomez, actress and singer Jennifer Lopez, Mexican actor William Levy and singer Beyonce.

In addition to the most popular overall topics, Yahoo! Pop also reveals the Top Ten Searches in six other categories: entertainment, music, technology, celebrities, news and sports. During the month of October, Disney Channel's singer and actress Selena Gomez, who just released her debut album "Kiss and Tell" and starred in the movie version of her Disney Channel sitcom "The Wizards of Waverly Place," was the most searched in the entertainment and celebrity categories. Searches for Beyonce dominated the music category and placed her among the most searched in the celebrities and entertainment categories, after the R&B star postponed a planned concert in Malaysia following accusations by Islamic conservatives that the show would be immoral. Searches for Real Madrid's soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo dominated the sports category after the most expensive player in the World damaged his right ankle playing a World Cup qualifying match against Hungary keeping him sidelined for several weeks. Among the most searched in the news category were Saint Judas Tadeo and El Salvador's online daily La Prensa Grafica. Yahoo! En Espanol users also searched for Paginas Amarillas (Yellow Pages), games and online translators (traductor), which were among the most popular topics in the technology category.

Updated daily, Yahoo! Pop search results showcase the diverse interests and concerns of U.S. Hispanics around the net, from gorgeous celebrity sightings and salacious political news to funny jokes and the latest consumer obsessions. To come up with the Yahoo! Pop Top 10 list, Yahoo! created a unique algorithm which scans anonymous query logs from Yahoo! Search across a variety of categories to see what themes and trends bubble up to the surface. Individual searches are never used to develop these lists. Every day millions of people visit Yahoo! to search for news, hobbies, curiosities, and all types of information. By putting all of the searches together, the site displays the topics that are of most interest to people. To view the most popular searches of the day, click on 'Pop' on the Yahoo!
