Turismo Madrid Announces Winner of 'Madrid Dares You' Short Film Competition

NEW YORK, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Sabor Madrileno a short film made by New York University film school thesis student Neil Orman has been selected as the winner of "Madrid Dares You," a short film competition created by Turismo Madrid, the Madrid tourism board. Turismo Madrid presented the winning film on November 18 at the Room Mate Grace hotel in New York City.

The competition, in which five filmmakers were brought to Madrid to make the films over a period of six days, was conceived by Turismo Madrid as a way to showcase the capital city's creativity-inspiring attributes through unique artistic visions.

Sabor Madrileno was selected by a panel of jurists presided over by critically-acclaimed independent Spanish filmmaker Alex de la Iglesia. The films were posted online, where viewers could vote for their favorite film, acting as the tenth judge. The votes were included in the selection of the winning film.

Sabor Madrileno will be used in Turismo Madrid's upcoming advertising and media relations campaign in the US, including presentations to different film festivals and private viewings at collaborating institutions. Orman will also receive a prize of euro 3,000 ($4,400 USD).

Sabor Madrileno is about Orman's experience with Madrilenos and their food. The director said, "I enjoyed how people here take their time with their food, both in its preparation and its enjoyment. More than anything I enjoyed the characters I met along the way, from the charismatic restauranter Lucio to the innovative chef Paco Roncero. The food is great here but characters like these are the reason I will definitely come back."

The students left for Madrid on October 22 and upon arrival had only 72 hours to conceive and shoot the films and 72 hours to edit them before returning to New York.

The campaign is also designed to promote Madrid as a destination for film production. Home to 70% of all Spanish film development, Madrid is working hard to develop relationships with the international film community, opening its doors to different markets by promoting the region's cultural interest and as a location for film projects.
