Rethinking Cancer: New Documentary Provides a Rare Look Into the Therapeutic Journeys of Five Patients Who Overcame Serious Illness with Non-Toxic Therapies That "Empower The Body To Heal Itself"

NEW YORK, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Released in time for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the new documentary Rethinking Cancer presents a compelling look into the therapeutic and psychological journeys of five men and women who chose to use non-toxic, biological therapies to overcome serious illness. Four of the patients featured had been diagnosed with cancers, including breast, lymphatic and bone; and two of these were designated "terminal." Disease-free from 15 - 37 years, they are representative of a large pool of long-term survivors who sought guidance from the Foundation for Advancement in Cancer Therapy (F.A.C.T.) and its then president, the late Ruth Sackman. (Link to patient case studies: www.rethinkingcancer.org)

Since 1971, until her death at age 93 in December 2008, Sackman was one of the behind-the-scenes giants in the battle against cancer. A woman with no formal medical training, she rallied to the cause of many after losing her daughter to acute leukemia treated with conventional therapies. Sackman began at a time when "alternative cancer therapy" was a high risk endeavor - one where doctors who treated patients with alternatives were sometimes jailed. It was also an era when the idea that nutrition could have anything to do with cancer was denounced as "quackery" by the medical orthodoxy.

This High-Definition, 56-minute educational film introduces the public and the medical community-at-large to a very logical and comprehensive concept of healing, the primary tools of which are balanced nutrition and detoxification systems that have been successfully employed over decades. Additionally, it is a testament to Sackman and F.A.C.T., which became a critical "information grapevine" connecting desperate patients with educational materials and practitioners to guide them in energizing their body's own healing powers. The enlightening documentary also includes powerful opinions from two noted advocates of bio-repair, Philip Incao M.D., renowned Anthroposophic Medicine practitioner and author, and Sheryl Leventhal, M.D., a former New York Oncologist and educator who recently left the specialty to pursue the more prevention-focused field of Functional Medicine. The film was written and directed by Peabody Award-winner Richard Wormser.

"Rethinking Cancer puts the spotlight on a long-running, ever-expanding movement in healing," states Consuelo Reyes, the documentary's Executive Producer. "It brings into sharp focus vital issues rarely addressed by conventional medicine - the root cause of serious disease, the inherent toxicity of prevailing treatments, food as medicine, the importance of detoxification and the subtle role of the mind in the healing process. These patients' stories also illustrate another very important message: that the success of bio-repair depends greatly on the understanding and personal responsibility of the patient towards their treatment."
