AutoWeek Announces Expanded Roles for Its Executive Editorial Staff

Three leaders promoted as brand continues to migrate to other media

DETROIT, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- AutoWeek, a Crain Communications Inc. media property, announced the promotions of Dutch Mandel, Wes Raynal and Roger Hart, as America's most passionate consumer car media brand continues to expand.

Mandel, 51, assumes the position of Associate Publisher and Editorial Director. He has been AutoWeek's editor/associate publisher for more than 12 years, and now takes a greater role in both the sales and editorial side of the business.

"Dutch has the distinction of being the longest tenured editor in AW's 51-year history," said KC Crain, VP/Publisher. "Not only was Dutch there at the launch of our web site, he was also integral with our television and radio products and has been on point for our social media efforts, too. He has shepherded the brand with distinction and as editorial director we will rely on his creativity on both sides of the house for years to come."

Mandel joined the company in 1984 as AutoWeek west coast editor. He previously worked for other publications in the Crain Communications Inc.-family including Automotive News, Crain's Detroit Business and Detroit Monthly. Before joining Crain Communication, Inc., Mandel worked in various editorial capacities for Sports Car Graphic, Backpacker and Sport Diver magazines.

Assuming the editor title of both AutoWeek and autoweek.com is former AW Executive Editor Wes Raynal. His main responsibility is to carry on the tradition of making AW the most readable, entertaining and informative consumer car source in America. Additionally, Raynal will make sure diverse and complementary editorial content exists in both the magazine and on the web site, raising the editorial bar in both products.

"Wes is an excellent student of media who recognizes a great story. There is no one better than Wes at delivering news first, which serves our readers - in the magazine or on the web - extraordinarily well," Crain said.

Raynal, 50, joined the team in 1989. He worked previously at Corvette Quarterly, the Detroit News, and AutoWeek's sister publication, Automotive News. Wes has grown up in the car industry and is well respected within the automotive community.

Taking on the role of executive editor is former Managing Editor Roger Hart who adds to his responsibility as day-to-day gatekeeper of copy flow, intermediary with the copy desk and feature assignment editor.

"We will look to Roger to take on more of AW's long-term planning demands, as well as continuing to rely on him for his excellent photography skills which have long benefited the magazine," says Crain.

Hart, 51, joined the team in 2000 as managing editor. Prior to that, he was editor-in-chief of The Daily Telegram in Adrian, Michigan. He also spent more than a decade working as a newspaper and wire service photographer for the Associated Press.
