ActiveVideo Networks' Jeremy Edmonds to Speak on Cloud-Based Navigation at Leading Cable Industry Technology Conference

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The ability of cloud-based interactive services to significantly improve VoD navigation and redefine television experiences for consumers will be explored by ActiveVideo Networks(TM) at the cable television industry's leading technology conference next week.

At the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers' Cable-Tec Expo conference, Jeremy Edmonds, director of product management for ActiveVideo Networks, will discuss how applications processed in the network "cloud" can create rich navigation experiences that expand the capabilities of cable and IPTV set-top boxes and web-connected CE device. Edmonds' presentation will show how consumers can intuitively browse through on-demand titles, view trailers and other special features, and receive recommendations that can be driven by past purchases or social-networking applications.

Edmonds will deliver his presentation, entitled "VOD Navigation: A Network-Based Approach to Increasing Customer Satisfaction and Operator Revenue," as part of the "Video Everywhere" panel from 2:30 - 3:45 p.m. on Friday, October 30. John Callahan, CTO of ActiveVideo Networks, served as co-author on the paper.

"To meet consumer expectations and optimize revenue, operators are seeking ways to create richer, more flexible VoD navigation experiences across multiple devices," said Edmonds. "Cloud-based interactivity has emerged as a way to improve viewer engagement, attract and retain subscribers and increase on-demand adoption by simplifying the ability to find and view desired content."

Cloud-based platforms such as ActiveVideo® immerse viewers in engaging experiences that combine Web video, Web 2.0 functionality and traditional television, using an ultra-thin client in the set-top box to pass user keystrokes from standard remote controls to servers in the network. Using cloud-based services, viewers can navigate a completely interactive environment of both linear and broadband programming including rich interfaces and graphics optimized for TV and remote control navigation; social networking; personal media; niche content; and targeted, actionable advertising. ActiveVideo's CloudTV approach uses intelligent MPEG streaming to deliver the Web 2.0 experience to a worldwide television audience through both legacy and next generation digital set-top boxes and broadband-connected devices.
